My initial reaction to the Mac App Store was pretty negative, I could not see much benefit to users and developers other than the centralized distribution. Other than that, it gave apple a lot of power to do a lot of negative things. The announcement yesterday of all apps having to live within their own sandbox and have a very limited list of permissions and access is another step towards Mac OSX becoming handicapped. I don't use any iOS devices because of apples policies and the general lack of freedom for what apps can and can't do. I DO use OSX and have been a faithful user for 10 years or so now, if Apple ever necessitates apps only be installed through the App Store, I will be forced to abandon the last Apple product I actually like.
