This ARM powered robot is constructed with mechanics from LEGO and uses a Samsung Galaxy S II phone that uses an Android app to control the robot's brain. See how fast it takes for a robot to solve a Rubik's Cube.
There are millions of Americans out of work and folks are fighting like dogs of Waffle Irons @ $2.
Wow.
As a society we are living well beyond our means…. we live in 2x as much space as we used to per person (800 sq feet+), and 4k square foot mcmansions are everywhere–many unfilled.
We are obsessed with buying things and concerns like +Walmart feel the need to ship folks into a frenzy. The local news coverage yesterday was 70% shopping related.
Studies show happiness doesn't come from stuff or space, it comes from experiences, relationships and a sense of accomplishment in building something. In fact, stuff makes folks depressed because they feel the need to inventory and take care of it (getting a little Buddhist here, yes).
As a society we are going to be fine, even if it doesn't feel like it will be fine. We've been programmed to feel like failures if we don't have a private jet, multiple cars and summer homes.
That's not the benchmark for success. How cool is the stuff you build, how much do you enjoy the folks you work with and how many awesome experiences you collect are the benchmark.
The amount of space and resources we have as Americans is unparalleled in the world. In a dooms day scenario, if unemployment doubled from the horrible state it is in today, could we simple add one more person to every fifth home and be just fine?
Carry on, it's going to be not only OK… but awesome.
How research like this isn't identified, provided massive funding and fast-tracked is beyond me. Get this into further development, testing, and approval as fast as possible!
I didn't make the connection in my head initially to music, but this works, and it is powerful. The new Channels/automatic channels approach with YouTube, Google TV and now G+ shows some really brilliant social sharing by google.
G+ & YouTube just started getting in the turf of internet streaming music services
See that new "YouTube" on the right, just type your favorite music genre or artist and hit play. Free music streaming non-stop from YouTube.
Spotify, Rdio, Mug, and others in the industry just got themselves a very powerful competitor, GoogTube. All with a bit of javascript and the integration of this ever growing network that little by little shows us the bigger plan Google has for it.
I think I like the old notifications bar better… maybe..
